PDF to Markdown converter
Turn a PDF into Markdown without uploading it anywhere. The document is read on your device with PDF.js: headings, lists and paragraphs are rebuilt from the page layout, and then you can copy the result, download a .md file or open it in the editor to clean it up.

Your file is read in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded.
Runs entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded.
How to convert a PDF to Markdown
- Choose a PDF: drop it on the box above or pick it with the file browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
- The text layer is read locally and rebuilt into Markdown: headings from font sizes, lists from bullet glyphs, paragraphs from line spacing.
- Copy the Markdown, download it as a
.mdfile, or open it in the Markdown Viewer editor to fix anything the page layout hid.
What converts well, and what does not
- Text-based PDFs convert best: reports, articles, documentation and ebooks keep their structure.
- Scanned PDFs hold pictures of text, not text. This tool does not do OCR, so the output would be empty — that is a limitation, not a bug.
- Multi-column pages, tables and forms are approximations: a PDF stores characters at coordinates, so column order and cell borders can be lost. Proofread before publishing.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing, conversion and downloading all happen in your browser, so the file never leaves your device — which is also why this keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
Can it read scanned or image-only PDFs?
No. A scan stores a picture of a page, so there is no text layer to read. Run OCR first (with Tesseract, for example) and convert the result here afterwards.
Do tables and columns survive the conversion?
Simple tables usually come through as text in reading order; complex ones may need fixing by hand. Headings, lists and paragraphs are what this converter is reliable at.
Need to convert more than PDFs?
The editor opens Markdown, plain text and whole folders, compares two documents with line diffs, and exports to PDF, Word, HTML or PNG.
