Markdown to plain text converter
Paste Markdown or drop a .md file and get readable plain text back: headings without hashes, links without brackets, tables as aligned columns. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
Or drop a .md file on this box.

How to convert Markdown to plain text
- Paste Markdown into the box above, or drop a
.mdfile: a README, a note, or a document you need to send as an email. - The Markdown is read as a document, not as characters: the converter knows a code fence from prose, so headings lose their hashes, emphasis loses its asterisks, links keep their label and tables keep their columns.
- Copy the text into an email, a chat or a document, or download it as a
.txtfile. Every character you keep is exactly what the Markdown said.
What you get
- Plain text that reads like the rendered page: headings stay headings (without
#), lists keep their bullets, quotes keep their>and code blocks keep their indentation and line breaks. - Links become
label (url)so the address survives the trip, images become their alt text, and tables become aligned columns you can paste into a monospaced mail client. - Nothing is uploaded and nothing is fetched: the converter walks the Markdown structure in your browser, which is why it keeps working offline and why internal documents can be converted safely.
Frequently asked questions
Does it remove all Markdown syntax?
Yes — the characters that are Markdown and nothing else: #, **, backticks, link brackets and table pipes. Characters that are part of your text, such as a literal asterisk or a # inside a sentence, are kept.
What happens to links and images?
Links become label (url) by default so the address is not lost; switch the option off to keep just the label. Images become their alt text, with the URL appended when the links option is on.
Are code blocks kept?
Yes, their content is kept verbatim: the fences and the language tag are removed, and the line breaks and indentation stay, because code that lost its indentation is no longer code.
Can I paste the result into an email or Word?
Yes. That is what the format is for: plain text survives email clients, SMS, chat, notes apps and Word without carrying hidden markup. Download it as a .txt file or copy it straight from the box.
Need the HTML instead?
The Markdown to HTML converter turns the same document into semantic markup, headings, tables and code included, and the editor renders it with a live preview.
