HTML to Markdown converter
Paste HTML or drop a saved page and get clean GitHub-Flavored Markdown back. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so page sources, exports and internal documents stay on your device.
Or drop an .html file on this box.
Runs entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded.
How to convert HTML to Markdown
- Paste markup into the box above, or drop an
.htmlfile: a page you saved, an export from another tool, or the source of an email. - The markup is cleaned first (scripts, styles and page chrome are removed) and converted second: headings, lists, links, images, tables, task lists and code fences.
- Copy the Markdown, download it as a
.mdfile, or open it in the editor to see it rendered before you commit it.
What you get
- GitHub-Flavored Markdown: tables, task lists and strikethrough convert to the syntax your repository already renders.
- Code stays code:
<pre>blocks become fenced code blocks, with the language when the markup declares one. - Scripts and styles are dropped rather than converted, so a
<style>block never leaks into your prose and the result is safe to paste into a repository.
Frequently asked questions
Is my HTML uploaded?
No. Cleaning, converting and downloading all happen in your browser: the page never sends your markup anywhere.
Does it keep tables and task lists?
Yes, with GitHub-Flavored Markdown enabled, which is the default. Turn that option off when you need strict CommonMark: tables then become plain text.
What happens to links and images?
Both are kept as Markdown by default. Switch them off to keep only link text and drop image URLs — useful when the result goes into a tool that must not call external hosts.
Rendered Markdown, not just converted
Every conversion can be opened in the editor with a live preview, LaTeX math, Mermaid diagrams and export to PDF, Word, HTML or PNG.
